Nissan to turn over documents to IRS

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  – Nissan North America Inc. says it will comply with a federal judge’s order to turn over financial documents to the Internal Revenue Service.

The revenue service has been seeking the documents since November 2009 in what The Tennessean reported as a probe of the company’s possible misuse of offshore tax havens.

On Monday, U.S. District Judge Todd J. Campbell ordered the automaker to turn over the records, and David P. Reuter, vice president of corporate communications for Franklin-based Nissan North America, told the newspaper on Wednesday they would comply.

In court documents, the government suggested the automaker might have moved some operations to Bermuda “to avoid U.S. taxation of the company’s gross receipts.”
