Grundy County Schools initially made the decision to go on with a 2-Hour delay, only later this morning deciding to close and cancel classes altogether for today.
Given the uncertainty of the weather system that’s moving into the area, officials with both school systems decided this was the best option to ensure the safety of students and faculty, and to avoid burning through any additional snow days.
One school system that has used many snow days already this school year is Cumberland County, just to our North on the plateau. Cumberland County Schools have elected to close today due to the possibility of snow and road conditions in their county.
Currently the system that has been dumping rain on most of Tennessee for the past 24 hours is still just rain. Some areas over the Cumberland Plateau, just to the Southeast of Nashville, have reported some freezing rain/sleet and snow flurries, but accumulations are very light at this time.
National Weather Service radar indicates some of the precipitation in that area is falling in a frozen form, however it’s in very scattered or trace amounts at this time.
MarionCountyMessenger.com will continue to monitor the weather situation and let you know any additional closing, cancellations, or delays that come into our newsroom.
