OPINION: Occupy Movement is like a bunch of brat kids

Why does the ‘Occupy Movement’ think they need to actually and physically occupy? Is it because their name says so? If so they should immediately change it to something else. Anything really. The fact they feel the need to occupy really doesn’t do anything the help their cause. In fact, I believe, it turns a lot of people off to their message.

Wouldn’t a better headline in any newspaper of this great nation be “Too Many Volunteers Show Up At Soup Kitchen/Homeless Shelter” etc.? I think so. I mean, for those of us who have jobs and family obligations, the type of protesting requiring camping out just doesn’t pull at my heartstrings.

The protestors are acting like children. Imagine a child wanting candy and their parent tells them no. The child (a real brat) says, “Hm. I will just sit here and stare at you until I get my candy.” This type of action is what the occupy folks believe is effective. People, if you want things to change then I would suggest doing something productive to make that change actually happen rather than camping out and hoping the people you are protesting will voluntarily make your desired change a reality.

It amazes me that people in and around Chattanooga believe that this is a good way to protest. Just look around town and see all of the “shame on..” banners with someone sleeping behind them. It really does nothing but make those that are protesting look stupid!

If you want to change our government, try running for elected office rather than camping out on a courthouse lawn. If you wish rich people would do more to help people in need, try looking in the mirror and asking yourself what you can do to help the less fortunate. I bet a homeless person would consider you rich and you could do plenty to help them.

If you think unemployment is too high, try occupying a job fair! If you think rich people and corporations get too many tax breaks, try putting your support behind a plan such as fair tax. This would eliminate every tax break or write-off in existence…plus put many more people on the tax roll. I mean, how many drug dealers file a tax return? Exactly, I hope you see my point.

You see, if you have a problem with something, then do something about it…just don’t pitch a tent and pout.

One more thing, who started this whole occupy thing anyway? Did they bother to look at a calendar and realize winter is on its’ way? That sounds like poor planning on someone’s part to me. Maybe it was the perfect plan after all. Maybe the leader of the occupy movement has some family members they detest? They told them to go protest and camp on Wall Street. The Holidays are coming up and now they won’t have to worry about those idiots showing up at their house come Christmas! I think I’ll try to get my in-laws to join the occupy movement after all!

The reason that the Occupiers are “Occupying” is that we are not being SEEN. They have to see what they have done. Its not a childlike behavior, its more of a revolution. Change needs to happen. When I, with a baby, barely scrape by, but just don’t “qualify” for government assistance because I make a tiny bit over the red line… thats unfair. When I don’t HAVE the ability to get medical insurance and instead am left to whatever odds happen, nothing is affordable, especially to those of us counting our change. I voted for change, and all thats left is change in my pocket. By the way – most of us Occupiers have full time jobs, how can we not? Of course its not the same kinda pay you 1 percenters get so I assume you wouldn’t understand. – Amy
