Rape Arrest made in North Alabama

Keary Edward Chandler

A North Alabama man has been arrested and charged with a rape that allegedly happened 25 years ago.

DeKalb County, Ala. Sheriff Jimmy Harris said Keary Edward Chandler, 50, from Rainsville, Ala., was arrested Feb. 21 on charges of  Rape 2nd Degree based on a complaint filed earlier this year.

The sheriff said the alleged incident happened 25 years ago and involved a female minor under the age of 16.

Based on Alabama law, which says a person commits the crime of rape in the second degree if: being 16 years old or older, he or she engages in sexual intercourse with a member of the opposite sex less than 16 years old and more than 12 years old; provided, however, the actor is at least two years older than the member of the opposite sex. Rape 2nd is a Class B Felony.

The case was presented to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and is still under investigation by the District Attorney’s Office.
