Jackson Co., AL Sheriff Bitten By Chihuahua During Drug Bust

A drug bust in Jackson County, Alabama last week leads to the arrest of several people on various charges and a dog bite to the County sheriff.

Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen says members of the Jackson County Sheriff’ Office Narcotics Unit, Criminal Investigators, Patrol Deputies and Animal Control Deputies executed a search warrant at a residence on County Road 86 in the Woodville community in the Southwestern portion of the county.

Authorities seized two marijuana plants that had grown to around 3-foot tall, a small amount of methamphetamine, chemicals and other items used in the manufacture of meth, and various drug paraphernalia.

One person was additionally charged with Animal Cruelty based on the poor living conditions for several horses on the property and with theft of services for stealing electrical services.

Alabama Department of Human Resources was contacted because several small children were present at the scene. DHS officials responded to take custody of the children.

During the execution of this search, Sheriff Chuck Phillips was “attacked” and bitten by a seven pound Chihuahua and received a small laceration to his leg.

The dog was impounded and the Sheriff is fine.

The following people were arrested on various drug charges:

Donald Ray Berry, 43, of Woodville, AL – Charged with manufacture of methamphetamine 1st degree, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana 2nd degree, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, theft of services 3rd degree, and animal cruelty.

Kisha Luna Ponce, 21, of Russellville, AL – Charged with manufacture of methamphetamine 1st degree, Possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana 2nd degree and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Alvin Lee Patrick, 39, of Woodville, AL – Charged with manufacture of methamphetamine 1st degree, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana 2nd degree and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Charlotte Virginia Berry, 43, of Woodville, AL – Charged with manufacture of methamphetamine 1st degree, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana 2nd degree, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bobbie Lynn Stewart, 31, of Gurley, AL – Charged with manufacture of methamphetamine 1st degree, Possession of methamphetamine, Possession of marijuana 2nd degree, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Christopher Eugene Berry, 22, of Woodville, AL – Charged with manufacture of methamphetamine 1st degree, Possession of methamphetamine, Possession of marijuana 2nd degree, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Curtis Ray Berry, 22 of Woodville, AL – Charged with manufacture of methamphetamine 1st degree, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana 2nd degree, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

All seven defendants remain in the Jackson County Jail and bond has not yet been set for the felony charges.

Additional arrest warrants will be obtained for at least two other persons.
