You may notice more shoppers in stores around the state this weekend.
Not only is it the last weekend before school starts back for Marion County students, but you can also save a bit on back-to-school supplies this weekend.
Tennessee and Alabama are both having a sales tax holiday this weekend. Tennessee and Alabama’s sales tax holidays run today through Sunday. Georgia will hold their sales tax holiday August 10th and 11th.
While each state has some differences in what items or price thresholds are included, shoppers won’t pay sales tax and benefit from the cost savings directly.
Typically clothing, school supplies, computers (with different price levels for each state) and more are exempt from sales tax.
In some instances, mail order purchases can also be exempt.
In Tennessee, clothing and school supplies of $100 or less and computers of $1,500 or less are exempt from sales taxes.
